Our Conservation and Restoration Department consists of a small established team of highly skilled restorers whose enthusiasm stems from a love and interest in the period of furniture-making between 1600 and 1800.
The business prides itself on having built a reputation for consistently preserving the integrity of the pieces they have worked on. In all cases wherever possible the original patination is conserved. Where colouring is required every effort is made to match to the original surfaces.
Through our expert assistance, our clients purchase outstanding examples of unrestored early furniture and we are confident that those who then choose to be directly involved in the decision making processes in relation to the conservation and restoration, develop a valuable understanding of the pieces and a long term appreciation of the subject.
Conservation of the original is the primary consideration. However, where restoration is considered to be the lone remedy, our carefully maintained store of old timbers, dating back to as early as the 16th Century, is utilized to ensure an optimal match.
The company also possesses an extensive reference library which includes Country Life from 1897 to the present day.
In addition to the specialist conservation and restoration of early oak and country furniture, the range of available skills include, Cabinet work, Carving, Polishing, Specialist Wax Finishing, Marquetry, Boulle-work, Metal Work, Bronze Mounts, Ormolu, Gilding, Cane Work and Rush Seating.
Every project that is undertaken is carefully considered to ensure that the client’s expectations are met.
We have weekly conservation days at our Restoration Department.
